WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC, November 4, 2024 — The “Not So Dirty Dozen,” Beach Sweep series created by Blue Shark Vodka will come to a conclusion in December.
Last year, Blue Shark Vodka set out to host 12 beach sweep clean-ups in 12 months along the Carolina coastline. From Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina to Surf City, North Carolina, volunteers have picked up more than 100 industrial bags of litter from area beaches. The series kicked off in Surf City at Daddy Mac’s last year on Veteran’s Day weekend with a special event honoring veterans and their families.
The series will conclude Saturday, Dec. 7 (Pearl Harbor Day) at Daddy Mac’s.
“We could not have hosted this many volunteers each month at different area beaches without our amazing restaurant partners,” said Blue Shark Vodka President Niki Bloomquist. “Each month, a local restaurant collaborated with our team to create fun drink specials and space for our volunteers, and helped us promote this worthwhile series. We are also so grateful for the amazing volunteers and their families who show up to help make our coastlines a better place for wildlife!”
Thanks to these amazing restaurants for hosting the last year: Daddy Mac’s, Surf City; Lumina Resort, Wrightsville Beach; Poe’s Tavern, Sullivan’s Island; Koko Cabana, Oak Island; Moore Street Oyster Bar, Southport; Waterman’s Brewing, Wrightsville Beach; Ocean Isle Fish Company, Ocean Isle; Savor, Wilmington; Fibber McGee’s, Sunset Beach; Brunches, Carolina Beach.
Founded in 2019, Blue Shark Vodka has a vested interest in keeping oceans and coastlines healthy to aid dwindling shark populations. While not everyone loves sharks (we want to note the Blue Shark species is very docile and friendly) sharks do play a vital role in the ocean ecosystems. Sharks are known as a “keystone species” and without them the food pyramid in the ocean would collapse. Blue Shark Vodka partners with a number of organizations both locally and nationally, like The Atlantic Shark Institute, to keep sharks from disappearing entirely.
