Honoring 50 Years: A Toast to Legacy and Loyalty
Mark “Chief” Bloomquist, founder of Blue Shark Vodka and proud Naval Academy graduate, is gearing up for a monumental celebration – his 50th reunion in Annapolis. As Chief and his classmates from the Class of 1975 gather to honor this remarkable milestone, Blue Shark Vodka is embracing its roots and the journey that began in Wilmington, North Carolina and has since expanded from Maryland to Florida.
Shark Week with Purpose
July 20–25, 2025, Blue Shark Vodka is giving back. From July 20 to 25, proceeds from every drink with Blue Shark vodka sold at the establishments below will be donated to the Atlantic Shark Institute, supporting vital marine conservation efforts.

Returning to Our Beginnings
As we reflect on and honor our humble beginnings, we are spotlighting three local legends who helped launch our brand. Why three? It’s a heartfelt nod to Chief’s days at the Naval Academy, where he and his two unforgettable roommates—nicknamed everything from the Three Stooges to the Three Musketeers and even in a tribute to bands of the time – Earth, Wind and Fire – formed a bond as unbreakable as steel. These three friends, who some say even inspired the movie “Three Amigos,” all went on to serve as Naval Officers, leading and fighting for our great country with honor and courage. So, as we go back to our beginnings, our roots, we are doing it with a tribute to those who navigate life’s waters with honor and resilience, THREE it is.
Spotlight on Our Founding Friends
During Shark Week, join us at these three Wilmington establishments with the people who have been part of our Blue Shark Vodka journey from the start, planting the roots for success:
Brunches
Danny and Earl McPherson, previous owners of King Neptune restaurant, were the first to serve Blue Shark Vodka on-premise—pioneers in our story.

The Catch
Ricky Watson, the creative force behind the bar at The Catch, crafted the signature Blue Shark Lagoon cocktail that’s become a fan favorite.
SAVOR Southern Kitchen
Jason Nunes, SAVOR’s General Manager, has been the mixology mastermind behind countless national and local fundraisers since our earliest days.

Raise a Glass to Legends
This Shark Week, lift a Blue Shark drink in tribute—to the sharks that inspire us, and to the Naval Academy alumni whose courage and camaraderie light the way. Celebrate the 50th reunion of the Class of 1975 with a toast as bold as their legacy.
